#58 of the Caveliers(Lakeland) played all season in all of the games whether it was a middle linebacker or offensive tackal and stayed in the game the whole time at each game and defend and support his team strongly and aggressively; and yet he gets no mention or recognition for what he done. Would that take away from what others done “No” but credit should be given when credit is due. Coach what ‘s up with that? Thank you

The coaches vote for this team so obviously they didn’t feel the same way you do as a parent.

Remember the name Darren Flowers Jr has played solid defense @ DE for Oscar Smith and made key plays in tight
games. just ask Grassfield and Lakeland.

All the other All District teams are loaded with the Team who won the district players. It’s sad that Smith don’t have more players to make the all district 1st team at the least they should have more on the 2nd team. With that being said one of the teams with the worst record had a player win Defensive player of the year by himself, but JC who’s team won the district hands down had to share the offensive player of the year award. Wow! Maybe there should be a D-6 defensive player of the year!

Oscar Smith has a qb, rb, 2 wr, & te on 1st team offense and 2 dl, lb, & 2 db on 1st team defense, not to mention those who made it on the 2nd team. I think os is well represented.

How do you win SED Defensive Player of the Year and your team has 2 wins all year… And gets blown out by Great Bridge, Lakeland, Grassfield, and Oscar Smith… All these awards are is just politics… He is not deserving at all for Defensive Player of the Year… Players of the Year have to help there teams win not lose

As VSaw said above in his/her comment, “The coaches vote for this team so obviously they didn’t feel the same way YOU DO AS A PARENT”! I understand that you all are huge JC/Oscar Smith fans but you have missed out on something important…THE FACTS! First off, you are complaining about a kid who won Defensive Player of the Year by himself which was voted on by coaches (to include Morgan), yet mad that JC had to share it with a kid from Lakeland who by the way might I add, did not fully outright win the award by himself ONLY because the district does not recognize Utility Players on the All-District 1st Team (they do on the State level though), to be nominated for that recognition, so it had to go to a principal’s vote. Secondly, JC as the VA Pilot reported, was recruited by his dad to VA Tech & was mad that he wasn’t originally looked at by them, where as the young man on defensive have been recieving full scholarship offers for D-I Colleges since a sophmore and interest from 100′s more as a freshman. That means college coaches also see something in him too. JC went down to Duke University for a Nike Camp over the summer (the same one that the King’s Fork guy went too) but the KF guy made the Nike All-star team as a sophmore. How come JC as a senior didn’t make the Nike All-star team even though he was supposed to be the best RB there??? It’s because he’s NOT! He’s the best in the eyes of the arm chair QB’s opinion, which is fine because everyone has an opinion. I know everyone like Oscar Smith but if you’d stop to take a serious look at stats, talent, overall accomplishments, grades, and reputations that are carried by these coaches and players, then you’d also understand what gains these kids their votes, as well as see that there is huge talent in the Hampton Roads area. In fact the Defensive Player of the year, I understand is going down to Florida for the Under Amour All-American Combine/game because he was invited to that along with the US Army All-American combine for next year’s game, but I didn’t see anyone from Oscar Smith on that list although I did see someone from Norfolk Christain & Ocean Lakes who’s playing this year. Oscar Smith yes wins games but for some reason are all individuals and media divas. Nonetheless, if you ask the majority of the kids themselves…I bet you they’d cheer each other on because they grew up together, played with/against each other since Pop Warner, travel in the same combine circles and happen to be friends. So before you go point out individuals, please understand and know the voting process, be aware of talent and/or stats, and gain a sense of appreciation for every child out there on the field, not just one individual.

One thing to argue with “THE AUTHOR” however. Camps are just showing coaches how you perform in t-shirt and shorts. Football is played with pads so performing well at camps, while it is important, it is not really football. You can look at Simms who went to Alabama who was the Number 1 qb in the country when he came out and did not beat out the other guy who was not that high of a commodity coming out of high school. It is about what you put on tape not how fast you run your 40 or how much you can bench press. So hating on J.C. on how he performed at a camp really does not really tell you the type of player that he is. J.C. was a heck of a high school player now what he does in college is yet to be seen. Which is hard to say for any of these kids because your 40 times and how well you can run through an agility ladder or around cones is not football at all

CONGRATULATIONS TO THIS YEAR’S SED Co-Offensive Player’s of the Year (Raekwon Johnson & JC Coleman), SED’s Defensive Player of the Year (Charles Clark Jr) and all of the 1st & 2nd Team All-District Players, as well as the Honorable Mention selectees!!!! You ALL are deserving of your recognitions! I hope to see more additions to this list next year, as I know and have watched this district’s athletes put in work over the off seasons and I’m sure will continue to do before the start of next season. Again…JOB WELL DONE to all the Student Athletes!!!

I do agree that all these kids are very deserving of there honors because they have worked very hard throughout the season… Special shout out to Raekwon Johnson who really helped carry Lakeland throughout the season with all of the injuries that all of the major injuries they sustained throughout the season… All these things are however are just little awards that have nothing to do with how your team performs on friday nights. The real object of football is winning not how many guys of teams are on first-team or second team or honorable mention or who won player of the year. Arguements can be made all day of who is the most deserving but at the end of the day it is about who is the last team standing at the very end not the individual who had all the stats and their team lost at the end of the night. Every parent wants their kid to be the kid who has all the accolades but thats the problem with parents of today they would much rather just see their kids on the field and playing well than having the team win at the end of the night. Like I said before congratulations to all of the kids who won the post-season awards. But everyone should just know that all these awards are just coaches opinions on who they believe were the best players throughout the year and in the end its about WINS and LOSSES not the person who had the most yards rushing, yards passing, tackles, or interceptions … Like I said before this stuff is just a matter of opinion
November 29, 2011 at 1:40 pm
Jeff
first of all congrats to all the players who prepare from jan. 1,2011 .these awards come around every year and yes someone being left off or going un-noticed should serve as motivation jan.1 . so keep working hard athletes on the field and in the class room .now coaches ,talent evaluators will gladly appraise your talents ,but you must first go to those camps first (word of advice athletes & parents). then your kids would not only get just local recognition but national reconition ! now to jc being s.e.d poy alone im sure thats not whats most important because all his comments has been team oriented being state champion ! but for the record every camp attened jc was a beast at his position rb and winning the Mvp awards and yes he won that award at duke camp too ! but furthermore consistantly his numbers are the same each year with limited carries . his game film & hi-lites are “Crazy” ! don’t believe go to youtube ! lol jc “poy” & student ath. of the year(S.A.O.T.Y) close to 4.0 gpa go figure sed should be very proud of that too !

Like I said, “How come JC as a senior didn’t make the Nike All-star team even though he was supposed to be the best RB there being that he was the MVP of his position??? It’s because the overall camp evaluators didn’t feel the same. Don’t ask me, go to espn.com and check the ncaafb link and read for yourself. Just to be clear no one is hating on the young man JC but give credit where it is due as well because likewise, check KF’s Defensive Player of the Year’s GPA, and you’ll see what kind of kid he is as well and the type of diploma he has under his belt as a JR. He’s just a humble young man that don’t need a spotlight, his accomplishments speak for itself without having to use the media’s attention (in fact his parents won’t even let him get caught up in this hype, so good for them). Honorable mention as a freshman, 2nd team all sed as a sophomore & 1st team all sed / defensive poy as a junior. His dad is not recruiting him either, but he does have an offer from Va Tech already under his belt (go figure). If that’s all JC wanted, then he didn’t have to leave Kings Fork for that and go over to OS because their NFL veteran coach as a Tech alumni could have helped him out in that area, just as he did with their RB (Dominique Patterson) who has been at Tech over the last two seasons as well. What’s wrong with JC or ANY OS player simply being happy as a state champion? Is that not enough? Or should we say that he’s better than the kid from Great Bridge at RB too? I’m not taking anything from any of these kids, but call a spade a spade and know facts instead of spitting opinions. I’m glad that all 3 Suffolk schools made an impact on the SED this year to keep the comments coming for their motivation.
Ps. Remember 10years ago, OS was the Deep Creek of today and Deep Creek was the OS…likewise, the same garbage was being said about the “media’s team” back then as they are today. Standby, because within the next year, you’ll be seeing a changing of the guard and be riding the Grassfield wagon just like everyone does for OS today and screaming the names of another “JC” without noticing the many talented student athletes from the area unless it’s your kid thats on another team. Oh yeah one more thing…I think the kid from KF’s dad said he’s looking at going to Alabama too like one of y’all other OS player, he has plenty of offers from what I understand.

Alabama? Nice try haha… He might be a decent football player but not Alabama good… I seriously don’t think they look for guys on 2 win teams… There is not a kid in the 757 who is at that level right now… Maybe Eli Harold but other than that no… But true Oscar Smith was the Deep Creek of the SED but not now you have to give credit where credit is due they are a team that is consistently good each year… The only other teams that can say that is Hampton and Phoebus… Everyone thought Oscar Smith would have down years here recently and it just hasn’t happened. The credit goes to that coaching staff for keeping that team consistently good while Richard Morgan has been on the staff… The same can’t be said for the King’s Fork coach since taking over for Cecil Phillips. He has had 4 wins, 3 wins, 3 wins, and this year 2 wins… So before you start bashing Oscar Smith you might want to talk to that Virginia Tech old player who is coaching Kings Fork to try to improve his team. Kings Fork has had one winning season and it hasn’t been under the coach they have now. And it doesn’t matter how many colleges like you or want you all you need is that one school to like you whether his dad was part of the recruitment or not
November 29, 2011 at 11:14 pm
Jeff
lol ok Jeff…touche’! I say that only as in an agreement to a point well made in your argument concerning the KF’s coaching history, so again touche’. Yet make no mistake in thinking that I’m bashing OS, I’m just not riding that wagon as most people are. I’m simply pointing out that it is very wrong for an adult to come on this site and say that ANY kid is not deserving of a recognition because their kid or friend did not get that same honor, especially without knowing what efforts went into earning that award. I think that being a Defensive Player of the Year for one of the more stronger districts in the state, says a lot for someone who is on a team that won only 2 games. It makes one want to look a little more deeper into what this kid is made of and/or is doing to have had opposing coaches vote in that manner. I just have one disagreement in your argument for you Jeff…I can see if you said, “not LSU good” but Alabama good?? Come on now! But anyway…I believe that kid is going to surprise many people (as he’s already done because this conversation would not be taking place and he’s not even a Sr yet). Not just him, but I believe that all these kids have the potential to be “LSU good”.

I completely agree with you for the whole Oscar Smith thing.. People around the area see them as some unbeatable team and they treat them like some sort of professional team… All i’m saying is kids want to be part of a winner so to say J.C. was wrong for leaving is completely not fair to him because with his size and playing for kings fork it probably would have been a lot harder for him to get noticed like he did. But Oscar Smith is a consistent team year in and year out and it is what teams in the SED need to try to beat because for years now it just hasn’t happened… But I do have to disagree with you for Alabama… That school is not some sort of joke they will be playing for the national championship here in a couple of weeks and to make it seem like LSU is that much better than Alabama is completely false because they only beat them by 3 in OT… There is a huge difference between getting recruited by VT or UVA (which is perfectly fine because most kids don’t get that opportunity to play at that level) than getting recruited by the 2 top teams consistently in years past in the toughest conference in America

In response to “EZ-One” comment, I wish they did have a “Student Athlete” of the Year award because in my opinion, I think that the Wellons kid from Western Branch who has been offered a scholarship from Yale would easily walk away with it. I love student athletes and can’t stand to hear the term “dumb jocks” used on TV and movies! To be honest…regardless of the sport, the athletes that you see playing on Saturday’s are not the best in the country…they’re just the best in the country with the grades that earned themselves scholarships as a result of their classroom work ethics.

first of all ”author” you are no author you are a ”hater” plus you are jumping all over the place from suffolk dist. schools to western branch hs. i find it amusing because you are beating a dead horse ! if it upset you that much get your kids out of that losing school (football) ! the kids can never reach their full potential losing almost every game and by the way getting beat down by smith every year . and the wellons kid you spoke of has he ever been all state at anything ! lol (saoty award) means on the field and classroom ! if you coach at kf i feel your pain .as a hs. football player you need dedicated coaching and im sorry for football @ kfhs . i know chuck and you are right he is a good kid and his nomination came on potential ,he could be so much better if he had better coaching period, but losing every game i will let somebody on that team win something” otherwise why do they waste their time missing summer, job oppotunities, days at the beach etc, i feel sorry for those poor kids they give up everything for jus one kid to get one award in that program ,shame you ! . kf always have talent(2010 team loaded) but tell me why you cant win more tha 3-4 games a year and why did z.super leave . jc would’ve never learn to be a complete of a player that he is under that system ! teaching and learning is what its all about so if you are proud of yours we are proud of ours go ”smith” ! jc was invited to a lot of events you obviously have followed hs moves coach” lol so you know and if he was’nt that good the coaches were attacking his cousins when he left crazy ! fyi jc will recieve the saoty award Mr smarty” ! ahh ha ha say it with me ”Congratulations” jc” Student Athlete Of The Year ! dont ‘frown’ , ”Smile” ! i see you , know im done with this but i hope you learn to shut that trap” up !

ps. if anybody other than Author really want to see what coaches see as a part of recruiting go to googles look up 20011 vto”s in richmond va.and compare the numbers which are elctontronic and as accurate as any .then you dont have to worry about being recruited ! also you will be very confident as an athlete because it goes hand in hand dont listen to someone who says that it dont matter ,because iit’s all relevant . 7 games 1300 yds. come on man” ! this would’ve been a 2000 yd season for jc ,then what cha say , but who cares ,state championship pursuits are better ! all hs. kids don’t listen to a loser if you want to get better , go and get coached up and compete with the best every chance you get because that how you get better not up here(computer) thats real ! correction above ”it’s (now) not know ! thanks

hahaha yall are crazy… Nah but wat ez-one is saying is true… I honestly don’t know charles clark very well and i’m sure he is a very quality person and very well-spoken… i actually had the opportunity to play with j.c. when he was there my senior year and when he was a freshman. I can’t say that I have met many kids that are as well spoken and a quality individual he is and j.c. is a heck of a football player who has played well throughout his hs football career… But I will say the coaches at kf let all the good players get away besides i guess charles clark as of right now. Z. Super had to transfer because he was not even good enough to start on the j.v. team there and was told to his face by the coaching staff that he was just “TOO SERIOUS” about playing football… Then when rumor is that he is being transfered he was harassed constantly and even pulled out of classes throughout the day being asked “is there any truth of you transfering”… Why care so much if he can’t even play j.v. football for kings fork?.. J.C. i honestly can’t say that i know his situation but i’m sure he has a pretty good reason… I can honestly say that i really feel bad for charles clark having to play under the coaching that they have at that school it truly is really sad year in and year out and all they care about is just making him well-known and getting a college scholarship to vt because that is where the coach went that they actually truly forget what the true objective is and that is to “WIN”… These awards really are just opinion of the coaches and i don’t know whether charles clark deserved it for playing on a losing team or j.c. did for not being able to make it throughout the whole season (which is not his fault at all because injuries are a part of football) and i’m just glad it wasn’t more serious and he was able to return to play this season… But J.C. stats were extremely good up until his injury there is no arguing that what so ever so i can’t say that he was or wasn’t deserving of the year… But people saying that he did not deserve to share the award are completely nuts. Raekwon Johnson had over 1,500 yards this season, over 20 tds, and threw for over 600 yards never playing qb before in his life and over 3/4 of those yards rushing came out of playing qb out of the wild cat. Hats of to him again he could have just said he wanted to stay at running back but he truly helped that team throughout adversity all season and eventually leading him to the playoffs

Yeahhhhhh !!!!!!!! pulitzer Prize”, duhhh ! you really are missing the whole point here Author ,so im gonna be nice to you ser’ in hopes that you understand and furthermore the readers here on this board can gain something from reading the messages and benefit in some way . Now first my rerfence was relative to training and developement of the youth or athletes ,parents, coaches etc. because so many parents find out later that in order to get recognition through the recruiting process you have to do some of the things i mention in my earlier post . the last thing i wanna do is slight a kid so i will say right now ”no dis-respect” to any young child or athlete who have the same goal which is to perform to the best of their abilities while learning a skill to become qualified by recuiting outlets that in turn directly put kids in a spot light for a free college education with college coaches period. we talked about certain awards which comes after you put the work in and their are some who need that direction of what that process is and i hope you at least agree with that .we can all get along ! if i for some reason dissed you or hurt you feelings i sincerely apoligize ! but the kids are our future so lets keep them in the class and on the field ! not on the streets in trouble with gangs and violence so lets say this , i am gonna do my part and if you continue to do your part then we are all better ! thank you Sir Author , yours truely Ez-One.
