Eli Harold has earned yet another honor. The Ocean Lakes senior who’s bound for the University of Virginia was selected by his teammates to be a team captain for the East squad in the U.S. Army All-American game to be played on Saturday.
Harold’s performance at team practice earned him the role. Reviews from practice sessions have had Eli blasting past offensive linemen, making tackles for a loss and constantly pressuring the quarterbacks in a controlled environment where the quarterback can’t be hit.
Ocean Lakes’ head coach Chris Scott was not surprised to hear that his defensive end/wide receiver had earned the honor. After all, he’s watched Eli grow up a lot in the past year, as a player and as a man. Harold progressed all season long from being a top recruit in the state to being a national level talent.
“I’m very proud of him,” said Coach Scott. “It’s been a full year since his mother’s passing and he continues to honor her in the young man he’s becoming. His All-American teammates and coaches are seeing what we’ve seen of him all year long. He’s representing Ocean Lakes, Hampton Roads and Virginia very well.”
In addition to his All-American honors, Eli Harold (SR DE/WR 6-4 225) was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Beach District, First Team WR and DE for the All-District teams, First Team All-Tidewater at defensive end, Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Eastern Region, First Team All-Eastern Region at defensive end and Second Team for wide receiver, and he was named Defensive Player of the Year and First Team defensive end on the All-757 team.
We’ll have more reports from the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and combine all weekend. Combine activities wrapped up on Friday and the All-American game will be played today.
