Ocean Lakes’ safety Myke Knox is moving on up.  First of all, he’s growing out of his position as a safety.  Knox is slated to be an outside linebacker on next fall’s Dolphin defense.  He’s bigger and stronger than ever, and Myke has his eyes set on a college scholarship.

Myke has a lot of plans for the coming months and he’s working on some significant scholarship offers already.

“I talk a lot to Old Dominion. Temple is sending me a lot of letters,” boasted Knox.  “I talk a lot with Maryland, UVA, Richmond, Virginia Tech and some D-III schools.

Knox has spent a lot of time in the weight room since the end of last summer.  He started the 2011 season as a 5-10 180 pound defensive back.   He’s already at 5-10 205 and he’s honing himself into a football machine, just in time for his senior season.

“By the time the season gets here, I’m probably going to play outside linebacker,” Myke said.  “I’m trying to get big, set the example and make tackles.  I want to come down, get in the box and blitz.”

Knox has camp plans and lots of seven on seven work coming in the next few months.  He plans on doing a little traveling with 757 Sports Academy’s All-Star team of local players for seven on seven tournaments, and he’s expecting to take some college trips with his head coach.

” Coach Scott is going to take me to some camps including a full contact ODU camp, a camp at UVA and one at Temple,” said Knox.   ”I’m really interested in Maryland and Temple.  Whoever gives me the best offer, that’s who I’m going with.  Temple sent me my first letter, so I feel like they have a lot of interest in me.  I looked them up, Coach Scott and I talked a lot about them, and I saw that they won their conference last year.  …and they wear Nike.  I like that school.”

Knox didn’t comment on Maryland and their Under Armour deal.

There are other Ocean Lakes juniors drawing heavy interest.  Defensive tackle Demetri McGill picked up an offer from James Madison almost a month ago.  Wide receiver Dre Dessenburg, quarterback Corwin “Turtle” Cutler, running back A.J. Baldwin, and lineman Alex Skidmore are also expected to draw significant college interest soon.
