McGill Now Up To Five

Ocean Lakes defensive tackle Demetri McGill added his fifth college scholarship offer today. Coach Chris Scott was on the road, but that didn’t slow down the interest in his lineman. The latest offer gives Demetri his first BCS offer, which just may up the ante on his recruitment.

Junior Rank’s Virginia Beach Camp was a stronghold for lineman talent. No fewer than five local linemen were recognized as top campers and given the nod to attend Junior Rank’s Prodigy Camp in Naples, Florida this July.

The 2014 class is hotter than ever and scholarship offers are pouring in. Lake Taylor sophomore athlete Jalyn Holmes landed his ninth offer today and that’s certain not to be the last of the spring cycle.

Ocean Lakes quarterback Corwin “Turtle” Cutler (JR QB 6-4 190) became the first Ocean Lakes Dolphin in the Class of 2013 to make his college commitment. He’s one of the top quarterbacks in the state and he threw for 1700 yards last year in his first season with the Dolphins. 2012 looks bright for Ocean Lakes and Cutler will go into the season with his college destination locked down. Where is Turtle headed?

The wide receivers at this past weekend’s Junior Rank camp sure made a splash. The camp’s Fastest Man and one of only two Excellence in Leadership awards went to a wide receiver this time. It was a crop of wideout that was deep and strong, all weekend long.

The Atlantic 10 Conference has officially welcomed the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth University. This ends about seven weeks of rumors that VCU would abandon the Virginia-centric Colonial Athletic Association. The rumors were accurate only to a degree. George Mason was first listed as possibly joining. However, the A-10 elected to only add two members, VCU and Butler. Now more than ever, attention turns to ODU.
