It’s long been known that Norfolk Christian had four of their top players headed to the University of Virginia. Running back Jocorey Robins transferred in for his senior season and had a huge year for the Ambassadors. Robins finished the regular season with 1,343 yards and 15 touchdowns on 138 carries. His team fell one game short of repeating their Division III VISAA State Championship season of 2010. Now he’s made his college decision.

There was one player that stood out among all others in the Eastern District. Mike Tyson of Lake Taylor High School won Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. It may be seen as a down year for the district, considering that only Norcom and Lake Taylor made the playoffs. There’s plenty of talent in the district though, as evidenced by the rise of Norview and the college commitments of Der’woun Greene to Virginia Tech, Marcus Haynes to Hampton, Cal Cook and Isaac White to Old Dominion and Darrius Jones to Richmond.

It’s a down year for the Eastern District. Lake Taylor (6-1) cruised to an easy victory over Granby (2-6) on Friday night and I.C. Norcom’s (7-1) steady performance in knocking off Norview (4-4) has almost assured the Greyhounds of a playoff spot while virtually knocking the Pilots out of the playoff race.

In the Eastern District, it’s now Lake Taylor and I.C. Norcom with everyone else trailing. Lake Taylor thumped the upstart Norview Pilots on Friday and I.C. Norcom held off a persistent Granby squad in order to rise to 4-0 in the district, with 5-1 and 6-1 records respectively.
