McGill Now Up To Five

Ocean Lakes defensive tackle Demetri McGill added his fifth college scholarship offer today. Coach Chris Scott was on the road, but that didn’t slow down the interest in his lineman. The latest offer gives Demetri his first BCS offer, which just may up the ante on his recruitment.

The color scheme should be familiar. Quin Blanding added a new ACC offer on Thurdsday from a team that’s been making the rounds in The 757. It’s a competitive environment for colleges looking for top players. Blanding is now at 17 offers.

Old Dominion University hosted a gathering of fans, corporate sponsors and the media at S.B. Ballard Stadium this afternoon to announce the move that had been speculated about for weeks. It’s the next step in Bobby Wilder’s dream of building a program from the ground up. It’s been called a gamechanger. It is a new day for Old Dominion Football.

ODU To Make C-USA Leap

The official press conference is at 2:30 Eastern Daylight Time, but ODUSports.com has already announced that the Monarchs are headed to Conference USA. It was a move that’s been mulled for weeks going into months. Now a leap to Division I FBS football is going to be a reality.

The Atlantic 10 Conference has officially welcomed the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth University. This ends about seven weeks of rumors that VCU would abandon the Virginia-centric Colonial Athletic Association. The rumors were accurate only to a degree. George Mason was first listed as possibly joining. However, the A-10 elected to only add two members, VCU and Butler. Now more than ever, attention turns to ODU.

Quin Blanding is on quite a roll. The sophomore safety visited Nike’s Baltimore Camp and was recognized as a top camper, then today Bayside was visited by a Big 10 school and Blanding bagged a new scholarship offer.

The rich just get richer. Blue chip prospects Andrew Brown and Kwamane Bowens added new scholarship offers on Thursday. The Indian River lineman and Salem wide receiver picked up BCS offers from two different schools. Both were significant. Both add to the growing total of college options for each player.

Green Run fought hard to get into the playoffs last year, and held their own in the Beach District. Their young team had a strong showing against Hampton in the opening round and now they’re looking to grow further. The youngsters are growing up fast. Sophomore defensive back Anthony Scott earned a BCS offer on Wednesday. It’s an early start to what could be a great recruitment, and a kick start for the Stallions.

It’s great to see young talent get noticed. It’s amazing to see a freshman land offers. Salem High School already has two rising seniors committed to Virginia Tech, with several more due to land at big schools. Yesterday, a SunDevil freshman landed his first scholarship offer. It’s the time of year for colleges to come calling, but who expected this?

Mizzell Adds Three New Offers

Bayside running back Taquan “Smoke” Mizzell continues to be on fire! The rising senior added three offers on Monday to get his total up to 20 now. While he has a couple of favorites, with new offers coming in weekly he’s pledged that the door is still open on his recruitment.
