JMU Junior Day Hosts Beach Group
Three of the Beach District’s top players paid a visit to Harrisonburg yesterday and took in the sights and sounds of the JMU Dukes. Rainy weather made it less than ideal, but the coaching staff at James Madison gave the guys a warm welcome.
Great Grades & Character Earn Salem Soph LB Early Notice From Army, Princeton
Salem linebacker Jacob Brown has a football pedigree and the good fortune of playing for a winning high school program. The SunDevils won the Beach in 2011 and Brown had an opportunity to grow as a sophomore starter. Those building blocks are putting him in a good position for recruitment and the circumstances are already paying dividends.
More Players Added To Recruit757.com!
In an effort to make our database as complete as possible, we’ve added 15 more players this week. It’s our goal to completely document all the college eligible football talent in the region. We cover as much as we can. In the latest group of players added to the website, you’ll find players from the Peninsula and the Southside. You’ll find players from the Tri-Rivers, Peninsula, Southeastern, Beach, and Eastern Districts.
Probst, Kepa, Parker Add To Strong Class At CNU
There’s been a common theme among local colleges this month: recruiting in their own back yard. Christopher Newport has a great class developing, and like ODU, HU and Norfolk State, the cornerstone is local talent.
Recruitment Gelling For Landstown Seniors
Landstown High School has a fairly loaded senior class this year and it showed on the field. The Eagles finished in a tie for second at the Beach. The competition was stiff, but they did their damage when they pulled out wins against Bayside and Ocean Lakes, two other teams picked to finish ahead of Landstown. Coach Tommy Reamon is working on recruitment for his seniors and he has good news to report.
Beatty Returns To The Land Of Lincoln
Chris Beatty’s rapid ascent in the coaching world has now reached yet another level. Beatty is moving on to Champaign, IL and moving up to be the Co-Offensive Coordinator for the University of Illinois. Beatty comes to Illinois as a part of the new regime headed by Tim Beckman, who took the top job after the dismissal of Ron Zook. Beckman comes to the Illini after holding the head coaching position at Toledo for the last three years.
All-Beach District Team 2011
The votes are in for the All-Beach team. Congratulations to the players that were selected! The Offensive and Defensive players of the year should be no surprise. Eli Harold was the most heavily recruited player out of The 757 in the Class of 2012, and it looks like Offensive POY Bucky Hodges will be the most heavily recruited player out of The 757 in the Class of 2013. (Honorable Mentions have been added)
Smith & Grassfield Advance To Rematch
After eleven games, we’re back to this for two Chesapeake Division 6 Powers. Oscar Smith rolled over Bethel on Friday night and Grassfield handled Landstown easily to set up a semifinal rematch pitting the Tigers against the Grizzlies. Just a few weeks ago, Oscar Smith outlasted Grassfield to win their regular season matchup by a score of 21-14. Now we get to see it all over again.
Playoff Preview: Division 6
Last year, Division 6 teams got to wait until Saturday to play. It’s hard to say if that extra day of rest was an advantage since it put the teams off of their Friday night routine. This year, you’ll see every Eastern Region Divison 6 playoff game under the lights on Friday night, and it’s a stacked bracket.
Final Week: Beach District Recap
In the Beach District on Friday, only one game truly had playoff implications. If Green Run defeated Tallwood, they made the Division 5 playoffs as the #8 seed. If they lost, they needed Nansemond River to lose in order to hold onto that slot. Both Green Run and Nansemond River won, but the Stallions made the playoffs based on Power Ratings. Here’s the recap from last night’s games:
