Brown and Bowens Add Offers

The rich just get richer. Blue chip prospects Andrew Brown and Kwamane Bowens added new scholarship offers on Thursday. The Indian River lineman and Salem wide receiver picked up BCS offers from two different schools. Both were significant. Both add to the growing total of college options for each player.

It’s great to see young talent get noticed. It’s amazing to see a freshman land offers. Salem High School already has two rising seniors committed to Virginia Tech, with several more due to land at big schools. Yesterday, a SunDevil freshman landed his first scholarship offer. It’s the time of year for colleges to come calling, but who expected this?

Virginia Tech loves a good, athletic hybrid linebacker. That’s what they saw in Salem’s Andrew Motu’apuaka (JR LB 5-11 200). Andrew made the trip up to Blacksburg with teammate QB Bucky Hodges. Both left on Saturday night having committed to the Hokies.

Salem High School quarterback Bucky Hodges has been known as one of the top quarterbacks in the state. Now he’s locked himself in as the best quarterback that’s staying home. It’s been argued that Christian Hackenberg (Fork Union) and Ryan Burns (Stonebridge) are in the same echelon. Corwin Cutler (Ocean Lakes) is in the mix too. Hodges made his commitment today, and with Hackenburg headed to Penn State and Burns headed to Stanford, Bucky has the opportunity to be the hometown hero.

Salem High School linebacker Andrew Motu’apuaka now has a West Coast offer. Andrew is now up to four scholarship offers and his stock is rising.

Blacksburg Trip Builds Bridges For Hodges

Quarterback Bucky Hodges has engineered some thrilling drives in his time at Salem High School. The 6-6 220 pound rising senior quarterback visited Virginia Tech over the weekend, spent some time checking out the renowned Engineering program there, and built a few bridges of his own as he spent time with current Hokie quarterback Logan Thomas.

Despite the overcast skies and threat of rain, the National Underclassmen Combine went off with out a hitch on Saturday morning. Some of the region’s top seventh, eighth and ninth graders were showcased at Bethel High School.

Salem quarterback Bucky Hodges has seen his recruitment skyrocket. It should be no surprise that he’s a hot commodity. At 6-6 220 with sub 4.6 forty speed, Hodges has schools clamoring for his attention. Bucky holds offers from schools far and wide. The latest one was closer to home.

Three of the Beach District’s top players paid a visit to Harrisonburg yesterday and took in the sights and sounds of the JMU Dukes. Rainy weather made it less than ideal, but the coaching staff at James Madison gave the guys a warm welcome.
